What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis works by helping you to access a deeply relaxed state in which it is easier to effect change. It works on a subconscious level to challenge deeply ingrained habits and thought patterns to make positive changes in your life. Hypnotherapy is used to combat panic attacks and anxiety disorders, increase confidence and self-assurance, teach you to remain calm in particular circumstances such as public speaking or your wedding, and help you overcome all manner of phobias. It is particularly effective at changing bad habits such as smoking, over-eating, nail biting, teeth grinding, or drinking too much caffeine, as the roots of these are in the subconscious.
What is NLP?
Neuro-linguistic Programming, or NLP, is a collection of techniques that work on the ‘self-talk’ we all have in our heads, teaching you to stop negative or unhelpful thought patterns and change your approach to life for the better. It can be used alongside hypnosis or on its own to tackle a range of issues.
Will I lose control?
Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation that does not in any way circumvent your normal self-protective mechanisms – if a fire alarm, for instance, were to go off you would automatically come out of hypnosis to deal with the emergency. Studies have shown people under hypnosis cannot be made to go against their own morals, for instance to harm someone. The essential ‘self’ is always watching and aware, and will bring you out of hypnosis if it feels it necessary.
Can everyone be hypnotised?
Some people are more easily able to reach a hypnotic state than others, but it is a skill that can be improved with practice. Successful changes can be made in quite a light hypnotic state, so the vast majority of people can go into hypnosis enough to treat the problems discussed on my website.
